CE FMCG a.s. on Thursday 15 February signed a contract with the food group Orkla Foods Czech Republic and Slovakia for the purchase of FRUTA Podivín, a.s. The transaction is now subject to review by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection before it is completed.
CE FMCG a.s. is part of the industrial group CE Industries a.s. owned by Czech entrepreneur Jaroslav Strnad. Orkla Foods Česko a Slovensko a.s. is part of the globally operating industrial investment group Orkla based in Norway.
Peter Szuma FMCG Investment director says: "CE Industries' strategy is to grow also in the FMCG segment and specifically in the food industry, where it owns companies such as Kaumy or Kávoviny. Fruta Podivín is a food producer with a long tradition. At Fruta, we want to maintain the production of the current portfolio of quality Czech food products and the associated jobs. Our intention is its long-term development."
"The completion of the sale allows Orkla Foods Czech Republic and Slovakia to focus on the development of its core brands such as Vitana, Májka, Hamé and Simply Fresh and further strengthen its position on the Czech market. We are pleased that Fruta Podivin is gaining a strong owner who will preserve the tradition of food production and employment in Podivin," says Martin Frýdl, spokesman for Orkla Foods Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The transaction also includes the sale of the Hamánek, Cvrček and Fruta brands.
Fruta Podivín is being sold as a going concern, therefore the contracts with the company's employees remain intact.
